CrossWinds offers counseling sessions for children of all ages that provides the opportunity to talk or play out what they’re feeling. We equip children and their families with the tools to address the social, emotional, or behavioral health issues in the most caring, supportive, and effective way possible.

 

Additionally, CrossWinds operates a preschool in Emporia for children from 3 years old to Kindergarten-ready that are struggling in their current environment for social, emotional, and behavioral health problems. We strive to prepare children for success in a less restrictive classroom by the time they enter Kindergarten. By using the Conscious Discipline curriculum, we help children with essential behavioral and emotional skills.

Our Philosophy

At this age, kids express themselves not through words, but through play. At CrossWinds, we believe in following the child’s lead while teaching them how to recognize their emotions and use their coping skills to calm themselves.

  • How do I know if my child needs this?
  • Every child is unique and expresses themselves differently. Some warning signs include persistent feelings of sadness, worry, or anxiety, or experiencing regular nightmares. At CrossWinds, your first appointment with us will be an assessment to determine if your child could benefit from our services. Give us a call and let our trained therapists determine if there is something that we could help your child with!
  • How do I pay for services?
  • CrossWinds accepts many different insurances, including private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Uninsured clients may qualify for sliding scale fees based on household size and income. You will be asked during registration to provide insurance information and proof of income in order to determine your rate of payment. Fees vary based on the services you receive.
  • How do I talk to my spouse about counseling for our child?
  • Bringing up the topic of getting help for your child can be hard and complicated. It's normal for parents to have a difference in opinion about how a child should or should not be behaving and this is a common reason for families to not seek out help. We encourage you to start with a conversation about the signs and symptoms that you have noticed and you're concerned about.
  • How long are therapy sessions?
  • Therapy session vary in length depending on the issue or the interventions that the therapist chooses to introduce. An average length of a session is 30-60 minutes.
  • What are some of the issues / concerns you cover?
  • CrossWinds provides the tools needed to cope with daily life including the impact of trauma, grief from the loss of a loved one, social, emotional, and behavioral issues, and feelings of depression and anxiety among many others.

  • We believe that with the proper tools and guidance, your child can recover and begin to manage their own mental wellness.
