“Ethics: Gender identity sensitivity and treatment with Dave Provorse, PhD. Licensed Psychologist”

This training will utilize coverage of the “Psychosocial Readiness Screening” process provided by QMHPs that is required by medical providers prior to pursuing medical procedures designed to promote gender affirmation for persons who meet criteria for Gender Dysphoria as the platform for a broader discussion of common elements of the transgender experience. Ethical considerations when providing mental health services to gender diverse clients will also be discussed.

The objectives of this training include:
1. Become familiar with the elements required, and the process involved, when providing a “Psychosocial Readiness Screening” for clients pursuing medical procedures consistent with gender affirmation.
2. Describe ethical considerations when providing mental health services to clients who self-identify as transgender, non-binary and gender fluid.
3. Gain an understanding of, and an appreciation for, the familial, social, and personal challenges commonly experienced by gender diverse clients.
4. Engage in self-awareness exercises that reinforce the necessity of adopting a proactive advocacy stance when working with clients who self-identify as gender diverse.
